Jeremy had a platelet transfusion and a red blood cell transfusion this morning, then left hospital on another Gate Pass this afternoon! We are thankful for this precious time that we can spend together at home!

Prayer Points

* All praise, glory and honour to our almighty and merciful God for bringing Jeremy safely through his bone marrow transplant and for healing him of his leukaemia!

* Thank God for the wonderful results of Jeremy's first post-transplant bone marrow aspirate (16 November 2009) which showed no detectable leukaemia cells!

* Thank God that Jeremy is now in remission!

* Pray that the leukaemia will never come back, and that he will have no more long-term side-effects of his toxic treatment!

* Thank God that the results of his bone marrow aspirates on Monday 1st February 2010, Monday 12 April 2010, Wednesday 7 July 2010, Wednesday 8 December 2010, Wednesday 2 February 2011, Wednesday 11 May 2011 and Wednesday 17 August 2011 showed no detectable leukaemia cells!

* Pray that he might recover all of his high frequency hearing.

Definitions

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) - a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. ALL affects the type of developing white blood cells known as lymphocytes. It is the most common form of childhood leukaemia, and the most common type of childhood cancer. It also occurs in adults.

Blast cells - immature blood cells normally found in the bone marrow. Blast cells normally constitute up to 5% of all bone marrow cells. These cells divide and replenish all the normal blood cells in the marrow and circulating blood. Acute leukaemia is characterised by an accumulation of abnormal blast cells that take over the marrow and spill out into the blood stream.

Bone marrow transplant - the process of replacing bone marrow cells (stem cells) that are unhealthy, with stem cells that are healthy. The healthy stem cells are re-infused intravenously through the central line, after very strong chemotherapy and/or radiation to kill unhealthy stem cells. The re-infusion of healthy stem cells essentially rescues the patient from the chemotherapy and/or radiation, by enabling his or her bone marrow to start producing new blood cells.
